You can read some online books and materials about writing .getting freelance work. You should check out for freelance writing, such as odesk, and web content writing jobs on rozee.pk and other job portal websites or in your newspapers and apply for the one that says ‘work from home’.  If you are good at translating articles and also proof reading then you can try that too, as many companies hire freelancers to proof read and translate various types of writing. Transition of Playgrounds to Videogames – Samia Adnan

A healthy mind resides in a healthy body but it seems that today’s children, youth and parents are ignoring this fact. No doubt the advancement in the field of science and technology has helped us in many ways – but its excessive use has deprived many of sound physical health.

People prefer the use of machines and modern gadgets over physical activities and sports. Less physical activity, especially sports and games that children used to play decades ago, gives less assurance of healthy mind and body.

Video Games Taking over Physical Activities: Pakistani children and youth have become chubby and lazy, as compared to what they used be before the advent of video games and Internet. Children have been captivated by these video games like Taken, Civilization, Call of Duty, Need For Speed, Sims, Prince of Persia, Black and also social networking games such as FarmVille, CityVille, Business World, etc that they hardly think to go out for a walk or play physical games and healthy sports. There was a time children used to play games like khoo khoo, chor sipahi, pakan pakrai, hide and seek, sack race, badminton, tennis, hockey etc but now a days we see them playing various games on mobile phones, world wide web  and video games on PC and gadgets like GameBoy, Atari, Nintendo and PlayStation etc. Playing grounds have become deserted and net cafes have become populated with the youth playing games online. Youth is addited to these online and video games and they are glued to them. A study says that a child should spend at least two hours for any physical activity, especially playing – which will result in their physical and mental strength. There are several reasons for video games to replace playgrounds.

Parents feel Relaxed: One of which is that  now a days parents feel relaxed when their children are busy in playing games as they know where their child is and what they are doing, but there are ignorant of the adverse impact of these games on their child’s health.

Parents are Too Busy: When I ask a lady the reason for letting her little son studying in class 1 playing games on computer – she said that it keeps him busy and he do not bother her when she is doing her work and also she do not have to run after him or to worry about him, as if he plays out doors she has to keep an eye on him and make sure that he do not get injured or get wounded while playing. She told me that its difficult for her to take her kids to parks or playing grounds – as its not safe to take kids out side due to security problems and also because she do not have time as she has to do her household chores and her husband comes late at night.

Pre-occupied Weekends: Weekends too keep parents occupied – that only 2% of families go out with their kids to parks and play grounds. Children too have assignments and tests to prepare during the weekends.

Lack of Space: Many schools are in the residential areas – therefore they do not have enough space for play grounds and so are children’s house – as now a days most of the people do not afford big houses to have playing ground..

Poor Condition of the Playing grounds: The terrible condition of playing grounds and parks also play a part in distracting youth and parents from out door games. Many of the play grounds have become a place for drug-sellers and criminals. Many grounds replaced by garbage areas – the trash of the entire neighbourhood is disposed into the playing grounds and the authorities pay no deed to it. Broken swings too have become common in the public parks.

How Mobile Phones Can be Best Used by Household Ladies? - Mrs. Samia Adnan

Mobile phones have become one of our basic needs these days and its hard to be without carrying one these days. Working ladies have keep mobile phones with them to keep their notes, maintain things to do, stay connected with their family and friends and to remind them of their meetings etc. but household ladies too can make best out of a mobile phone, right? A study tells that in Pakistan cell phones are mostly being used by every member of the family and do you know that according to a survey household ladies and children are highest users  of mobile phones? Through mobile phones house hold ladies can stay in touch with friends and family, and they can also do much more like listening to audious and watching videos which makes their staying at home less boring and more useful – here is how they can make best out of their mobile phone:

Cook Something New & Good: Ladies can make best out of a web-enabled mobile phone and benefit from the cooking shows on the websites like YouTube while being in the kitchen. This is a nice way to surprise their family with delicious and mouth tempting food which is different from the traditional menu of the routine.

Photography: They can capture the family functions by using their mobile’s camera and share with those pictures with their friends and family especially those living abroad, conveniently.

Calendar: Forget your sister-in-law’s birthday??!?? Ahh now you are in a mess – you see when one is married you have to remember some events if you want to keep others happy with you. So how about keeping a record of everyone’s birthdays, anniversaries and all such events on your mobile calendar to keep you reminding about these events.

SMS: Many times husbands are busy or driving and they do not receive the phone call – you can simply send them an SMS. This even helps if you need something and he is in a habit of forgetting, by making list of things to get on his way home in an SMS. This will save your money too – yea.. if you call him and ask him to bring this bring that it would cost you more than a simple SMS with the listed items to bring…I hope that all the ladies will agree with me.

Communicate with Friends: If you live in a joint family then its uneasy to talk with friends properly on the land-line phone. But  on the mobile you can talk and sms as much as you want, with out anyone interrupting you.

Socialize: Yes, socialize on Facebook, Twiter, Orkut and all these social networking sites and keep in touch with your friends on MSN and Yahoo! Messenger when you are feeling bored and done with the household chores.

Enjoy Music While Working: Yes, you can have your mobile’s earphone or Bluetooth device attached next to your ear while doing the household chores. Be it gardening or arranging the things and clearing up the mess at home – enjoy while you do it!

Get those Apps: There are so many health applications – mHealth apps – that you can get in your mobile and make best out of them – count your calories. Keep a record of your weight; if you are trying to shed some of those extra pounds – you can find many useful applications to help you maintain your deit and health.

Calculator: The most important thing in a mobile phone – I am not that good at maths and I need to use one for simple addition :) – There must be many house ladies who have to make their budget and running the house in a proper manner and the calculator is going to be a great help. One can not carry a calculator when going out to market – while the mobile calculator can help you check if the shopkeeper returned you the accurate amount.

Keep the Reminders: If your husband has some meetings or events to attend. You can help them remember by keeping reminders on your mobile phone – and remind him when you find him forgetting any task – believe me he will be happy to see that you can are making good out of your mobile phone and not just making costly calls to your family and emptying his pocket;) Not only husband’s meetings and appointment s- ladies you can set your reminder too – like attending a coffee party, meeting a friend etc.

Make Notes: Note down anything – it will save you a paper (which will protect the environment).

Phone Book: I have seen many house ladies who keep a diary in which they have penned down the addresses and phone numbers  they consult them whenever they need to make a phone call – They mostly overwrite and make it all messy when anyone changes their number – but if they make it a habit to save them in the mobile’s phone book – they can easily edit them – Sounds easy and better!

Set the Alarm: Yes – you can set alarms with the reminders besides the usual wake-up alarms – they help remembering doctor’s appointments, dinners, family functions and even time to remind your husband to collect the laundry or dress from the tailor. No?

Be careful: Before concluding – let me tell the household ladies that they should try to check their mobile phone’s user manual and hold the mobile phone at a distance, as some mobile phones. Have health related warnings mentioned on them. According to a recent research  into mobile phone health danger, the use of handheld phones by pregnant women could make the child more likely to develop behavioural problems such as hyperactivity, and emotional and relationship difficulties. The research revealed that pregnant women who used mobile phones were 54 percent more likely to report behavioural problems in their children than the pregnant women who didn’t use mobile phones, and that the likelihood increases with the amount of potential exposure to the radiation.

These are what I can make out right now – Can yiu suggest more? If yes, then send in your comments.

Outcomes of Predictive Text Messaging

The latest mobile phones are featuring built-in dictionary enabling them to predict what word a mobile user wants to type from only a few key presses, which some times end up suggesting funny results, often creating misunderstandings.
Those mobile users who use predictive texting on their mobile phones, can end up typing funny messages and sometimes have to face embarrassment due to miscommunication caused by predictive text messaging and mistyping of words on T9 mobile phones. Take the example of a mother who was taking her children to meet Santa Claus one Christmas, but ended up typing to her friend: ‘Taking the kids to see Satan’. According to a research conducted in 2009, predictive text messaging changes the way children’s brain works and make them more likely to make mistakes. Scientists said the system trains young people to be fast but inaccurate, which makes them prone to impulsive and thoughtless behavior in everyday life. Predictive texting makes people sloppy when it comes to spelling, with many flummoxed by words such as questionnaire, accommodate and definitely. To some predictive texting can also create severe situations like broken relationships due to a mistyped word or wrong spelling in text messages. However, for most mobile phone users, predictive texting is a source of convenience, and considerable amusement.

Mobile Phones can Make you Seriously ill

Your electronic devices, according to two latest researches, have the potential to make you really sick.

A recent study from the Journal of Applied Microbiology says viruses can easily be transferred from nonporous glass surfaces, such as the touch screen of an iPhone — up to 30 percent of a virus can be transferred from the screen of your device to your fingers. A separate British study Journal of Applied Microbiology says mobile phones are covered with up to 18 times more bacteria than a toilet handle.

Mobile Phones Are Covered with Viruses: Ashton explained, “Imagine these are germs, bacteria or viruses. You see how you touch your mobile phone all day long. Before long, it is covered with bacteria, viruses, germs.” She further added: “You know, we live in an environment that’s not clean, but when you talk about putting something like this near your face or touching it all day long and putting your fingers to your nose and mouth, you can see how easy it is. … If you hand someone your phone or put it down and don’t clean your hands, you see how this is a petri dish.” Dr. Ashton said people can catch any number of bugs, from cold and flu viruses to E. coli and norovirus. “I actually saw a patient who got MRSA (methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus) from their phone.”

How to Clean Mobile Phones: Dr. Jennifer Ashton showed some ways to clean your touchscreen mobile devices. To clean your product, you can wipe them down with special wipes you can buy at an electronics store. They also have cleaners you can buy if you’re concerned about damage. “I’d also recommend wipe down your regular phones and work areas with sanitizing wipes. ”
Basic Hand Washing: Wash your hands with soap and water. Wash them for at least 15 seconds or as long as it takes to sing “Happy Birthday.” You can also use a hand sanitizer as well.

Be Careful & Take Care of Your Health: Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth — and don’t forget to cover your cough and sneezes. With children in mind, Ashton added parents should clean their electronics as often as possible. She said, “Listen, you can’t live your life in a sterile environment and certainly day-care centers are ripe with germs, also, but you want to be aware that you do pick these things up from somewhere. If you hand one of these to your toddler to occupy while you are doing something, they can get sick from these so keep them clean. I wipe mine down with alcohol; I try to, once a day.”

Is Your Mobile Phone Germ-free?

You may like to throw your mobile phone after reading this, as a new study has found that the average mobile handset carries 18 times more potentially harmful germs than a toilet’s flush handle.
An analysis of mobile phones by British researchers found that almost a quarter of them were so dirty that they had up to 10 times an acceptable level of TVC bacteria.
Germs on Mobile Phone: TVC, or Total Viable Count, gives a quantitative idea about the presence of microorganisms such as bacteria, yeast and mold in a sample. Elevated levels of TVC indicate poor personal hygiene and act as a breeding ground for other bugs. One of the used phones in the test had such high levels of bacteria that it could have given its owner a serious stomach upset, said the researchers who carried out the study for the ‘Which?’ magazine.
The findings from a sample of 30 used mobile phones suggest that 14.7 million of the 63 million mobile handsets in use in the UK today could be potential health hazards, they said. “The levels of potentially harmful bacteria on one mobile were off the scale. That mobile phone needs sterilizing,” lead researcher Jim Francis was quoted as saying by the Daily Mail.
Unhygienic Mobile Causes Various Diseases: According to the findings, the most unhygienic used mobile had more than ten times the acceptable level of TVC, while the worst mobile handset had 39 times the safe level of enterobacteria — a group of bacteria that live in the lower intestines of humans and animals and include bugs such as Salmonella. It boasted 170 times the acceptable level of faecal coliforms, which are associated with human waste. Other bacteria including food poisoning bugs e.coli and staphylococcus aureus were found on the used mobile phones but at safe levels.
Which? magazine’s Ceri Stanaway said: “Most used phones didn’t have any immediately harmful bacteria that would make you sick straight away but they were grubbier than they could be. “The bugs can end up on your hands which is a breeding ground and be passed back to your cell phone. They can be transferred back and forth and eventually you could catch something nasty. “What this shows is how easy it is to come into contact with bacteria. People see toilet flushes as being something dirty to touch but they have less bacteria than used mobile phones and accessories.
“People need to be mindful of that by observing good hygiene themselves and among others who they pass the mobile handset to when looking at photos, for example.”

SMS Marketing – Fruitful for Some but Annoying to Many

Advertising and attaining extensive consumer reach for any corporate, could never have been made easier than the way it is today. As several SMS services and solutions providing firms send text messages to mobile phones of end-users on behalf of corporate organizations. Enabling these organizations to convey their advertising or promotional messages with ease. The next-to-nothing cost of sending these SMSes and the kind of reach that it fetches, is really surprising.

Millions of marketing text messages are sent daily in Pakistan. Which is really frustrating many of the mobile phone users in the country. This new way of promoting business is really growing rapidly internationally. Such Organizations that are selling SMS marketing softwares and services should realize that while this is a fantastic and reasonable means of communication, mobile phone users deem these frequent spam SMSes as annoying, frustrating and bothersome. Consumers who are driven quite close to craziness by the recurring text messages would repeatedly curse themselves for having filled up a lucky-contest form with their mobile numbers due to which they’d be bombarded with spam texts.

Digital and mobile Marketing

This irritation and annoyance is transferred to the organization whose name appears on the mobile phone screen and hence leads the consumer to bar any SMSes or calls from that particular firm. This automatically lowers the organization’s brand value and results in bad marketing and advertising. Marketers can, however, get this right if through SMS marketing they can provide consumers specific and comprehensible information that not only connects to the users’ emotional values but also appeals to their financial needs. All mobile marketing, if followed duly and if create value, will not be treated as spam after all.

The SMS Services and Solutions Providing Firms

In spite of the fact that mobile marketing industry is currently enjoying rapid growth, it is only a matter of time before the mobile service providers start incurring huge deficits. These firms enjoyed larger profit margin per SMS and hence underwent high-profit period, but with SMS rates dropping shockingly, firms are expected to endure lesser amount of profits with smaller profit margins. In addition to this, there also exists an unorganized section of SMS marketing companies who eat up 60% of the share of text messages that are sent. To face competition and to survive in a low-profit generating industry should be a tough challenge for these service providers. SMS marketing is thus, fruitful to some, but annoying to many!
